Zenith, Access, GTB, offer N300m Funding to 30 Winning Designers at ARISE Fashion Week!
ARISE Fashion Week is set to make a grand return from March 30th to April 2nd at the Lagos Continental Hotel this year. Recently launching the ARISE Fashion Management and Mentoring Programme AFMMP, the organizers are determined to grow global champions out of African designers.
The AFMMP initiative is curating indigenous brands that can compete with the best in the world and stand firm on the international stage, starting with the AFMMP Bootcamp from Tuesday 27th March 2018.
At the Bootcamp, designers participating in the ARISE Fashion Week 2018 will have access to a faculty of experts, who will engage the selected designers on Fashion Business and Financial Management, The Business of Luxury, Supply Chain Management, Strategic Planning, Merchandising, Retail and Export Strategies, Social Media Strategies, Image and Reputation Management, Brand Acceleration, and most importantly, 10 Steps to Becoming World Class.
The highlight of the AFMMP Bootcamp will be a Bankable Business Plan Competition amongst the designers from which 30 winning pitches will be selected. Each winning designer will be awarded 10 Million Naira Funding specifically targeted to enhance the designer’s infrastructure, supply chain, retail and export plans.
This funding will come with strings attached – a banking partner, (Zenith Bank, Access Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank and others ), a Brand Accelerator, and a Global Mentor drawn from leading design luminaries from around the world – who will donate their time and expertise to taking Africa’s fashion brands global. Meanwhile, arrangements are being concluded with leading consultants and business schools to ensure sustainability with quarterly classes.
AFMMP Program Coordinator, Orode Imevbore said:
ARISE has always been globally focused. Twelve years ago through Music and Fashion, ARISE Media told the story of Africa Rising around the world, leading to the current resurgence of Music and Fashion. Today, after a black US President, and a new Black Panther moment, the time for Africa is now. The AFMMP Initiative will ensure we have the bricks and mortar to compete in the emerging new world. And everyone is welcome to play their part. America is driving technology, Europe controls global luxury, the sun is rising in China and Asia. If not now, when will it be for Africa? Today we take baby steps with fashion and the creative industries.
Exciting hardly captures the emotions, as we are talking about empowering 30 talented designers with life-changing support beyond the capital, and making the African fashion design truly world class. The ARISE Fashion Management and Mentoring Programme is a first step. Jointly, together we will rise and conquer.
ARISE Fashion Week 2018 will take place at The Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos from March 30 – April 02, 2018.

ARISE L’Afrique-À-Porter: KLuK CGDT
South African label Kluk CGDT design ready-to-wear, bridal gowns and couture collections. White is usually infused into their seasonal collections. In their Autumn Winter 2008 collection they showcased a few white pieces on the runway, so it is no surprise that for this capsule collection, they decided to go with a one colour theme and present all white pieces.
The pieces in this collection have a softness to them, that airy flow white exudes when combined with fabrics such as; satin, silks and lace which emphasizes the lightness that each piece embodies.
I would have liked to see more colours infused into this collection, as white makes the pieces come off as bridal. However it does do the collection a favour as the pieces are angelic and the lace inserts give them a romantic feel.
My favourite piece is the asymmetric detail dress, which is similar to their lavender piece South African stylist Lidiwe Suttle wore to the ARISE Africa Fashion Awards. However, it is reinvented here with the addition of feather details which we also see in other pieces.

Tinie Tempah & Estelle join Africa’s Top Designers at the ARISE Magazine Fashion Week in Lagos – See the Schedule & List of Designers
The buzz, the speculation, the lobbying, the drama, the preparation, the collections…
The ARISE Magazine Fashion Week is at the top of the priority list for just about every African fashion designer based at home and in Diaspora.
It has been about two months since BellaNaija.com exclusively confirmed that the event would be taking place from the 10th to 13th of March 2011 in Lagos, Nigeria.
Now ARISE has released the complete list of designers and schedule for the fashion week via their parent company’s website – www.thisdaylive.com
It is set to be a thrilling fashion experience “spiced” with music from international stars including D’banj, Naeto C, Darey alongside Estelle (who is of Sierra Leonean parentage) and finally Tinie Tempah who will close the show – Tinie Tempah is one of the hottest musicians on the UK scene, he recently scooped 2 BRIT awards and has scored a series of No 1 singles on the UK Charts. Tinie (Real Name: Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu) is of Nigerian parentage and this will be his first performance in Nigeria.
Based on the list, there will be a dynamic mix of shows from designers based all around the world. ARISE also took the added step of encouraging promising new talent by including “new generation” designers including Ejiro Amos Tafiri, Bridget Awosika, Vonne, House of Nwocha, Ré Bahia, Toju Foyeh, Maki Oh and Tsemaye Binite as part of the AMFW.
There were some revelations on the list; Saheed Sulaiman who up until now has provided bespoke services to his clientele will be debuting his label on the ARISE stage, knitwear designer – Buki Akib and South African design wunderkind Gert-Johan Coetzee whose pieces are coveted by the young Hollywood set including Kourtney Kardashian and Kristin Callavari are among the designers who will be showing at AMFW.
As expected, the African fashion “institutions” including Tanzania’s Mustafa Hassanali and South Africa’s Black Coffee will also be presenting during the fashion week.
The ARISE Magazine Fashion Week will open with a “Business of Fashion” conference on the 10th of March 2011 and close with an awards ceremony including a final runway show by Black Coffee and musical performance by Tinie Tempah.

ARISE Magazine Fashion Week 2011 – Klûk CGDT
The collection presented by South African fashion design label Klûk CGDT at the 2011 ARISE Magazine Fashion Week was breathtaking.
With jazzy music playing in the background, Klûk CGDT took us on a journey through the different facets of their label – Couture, Eveningwear, Ready-to-Wear and Bridal. This was an accomplished collection by a brand that has contributed immensely to the South African fashion industry.
There was lots to love here, however, we have to admit that just like most of the guests at the runway presentation, we were totally seduced by the bridal wear. It was the crown jewel at the end of a beautiful fashion journey. Klûk CGDT won the ARISE Magazine Africa 2011 Designer of the Year award, Lifetime Achievement Award and will be part of the ARISE collective show at the New York Fashion Week in September 2011.

ARISE Made in Africa – Spring 2012: KLûK CGDT
Powehouse South African fashion brand, KLûK CGDT closed the ARISE Made in Africa – Spring 2012 Collective Show.
Trust Malcolm Kluk and Christiaan Gabriel Du Toit to deliver the goods! The duo celebrated the “romance” of the continent. Rather than take the approach which many international brand use when they present African-inspired collections (animal print, prints etc…), the duo kept things soft and ethereal. KLûK CGDT made great use of sheer chiffon in black and various light hues. Flower detailing illustrated the influence of nature in this collection while pearls and small clutch bags added a delightful sophisticated finish to the collection.
